In practice, quality stays consistent across hundreds of runs. The structured output needs manual correction maybe 5% of the time — usually a stray markdown fence or a missing closing tag.

Short, punchy content is where GPT-4o shines. I use it mainly for social media captions and email subject lines. The function calling API makes enforcing output schemas straightforward.

Quality is lower than Claude or GPT-4o. For internal use cases where data privacy matters, though, it’s more than adequate.

Long context window, consistent HTML output, reliable at following multi-step instructions. Here’s the real insight from six months of testing: AI is genuinely bad at generating original technical opinions. But give it your rough outline and your actual perspective? It’s excellent at expanding that into structured, readable prose.

My workflow: jot down 5–10 bullet points of what I actually want to say, paste them into a prompt with a style guide, and let Claude expand them into a full article. Then I review and edit. Total time: roughly 45 minutes instead of 3 hours.

Social Media Content

Best tool: GPT-4o for variation generation, Claude for threads

Social media is fundamentally a repurposing problem. You’ve already written the blog post — now you need 10 different angles to post over the next two weeks. AI handles this perfectly. It’s not generating original thought; it’s transforming content that already exists.

Email is where the results surprised me most. The Approach That Actually Works

Six months in, here’s my honest take: stop thinking about AI as a writing tool and start treating it as a content pipeline component.

The biggest mistake I see is people using AI as a black box — put topic in, get article out. That produces mediocre content at best. Break your workflow into discrete steps instead, and inject AI only where human bottlenecks actually exist:

  1. Outline — write this yourself (5–10 minutes, your actual expertise)
  2. Drafting — AI turns your outline into structured prose
  3. SEO metadata — fully automated (title, meta, tags, excerpt)
  4. Repurposing — AI generates social and email variants from the finished post
  5. Review — you read and edit for accuracy and voice (15–20 minutes)

This hybrid approach keeps the technical accuracy and personal voice that makes content worth reading. And it eliminates the time sinks that make consistent publishing feel impossible.
